The Simbavati River Lodge in the Timbavati Private Game Reserve, is part of the Simbavati collection, making it a standout luxury property that’s synonymous with Simbavati’s sophisticated brand. River Lodge, as it’s fondly known, rests on the banks of a river that’s a tributary of the Olifants River. The river is a life giving source of water for a wealth of wildlife, including an array of predators and the Big 5. The waterhole situated just below the viewing and dining deck, provides further opportunities to spot some of the Greater Kruger’s most incredible species.
Decor at Simbavati River Lodge marries traditional safari charm with stylish finishes, resulting in well-appointed rooms and tents with modern African flair. The main areas are built to take advantage of the views of the river and the floodlit waterhole – it’s not uncommon to see bloats of hippos and herds of elephants while standing on the deck. In the shared spaces of the lodge, there’s a small pool, ambient boma area with a firepit, and fitness centre. Simbavati River Lodge offers the iconic safari activities one would expect from a luxury Kruger safari – twice-daily game drives, in the morning and late afternoon. This particular section of the reserve is known for its leopard and African wild dog sightings.
A variety of accommodation options ensure everyone from honeymooners to families travelling together are cocooned in comfort. The three family chalets have their own viewing deck with a riverfront view, while the two secluded tented pool suites boast solar-heated private plunge pools, indoor and outdoor showers, and an expansive viewing deck. There are also six luxury safari tents with a beautiful game-viewing deck, and either river or bush views. Each safari tent also comes with an invigorating outdoor rain shower.
