Seychelles

Seychelles, an archipelago republic of over a hundred granite and coral islands, cover around 174 square miles and are located about 900 miles east of the African continent in the Indian Ocean. They form a triumvirate of very desired top-end holiday spots, along with Mauritius and Réunion.

Although Vasco de Gama is claimed to have been the first European to set foot in Seychelles in 1502, the area was administered by the French, not the Portuguese, in the second part of the 18th century. However, by 1810, Britain had stepped in to take control of the islands, a position it held until 1976 when the islands declared freedom.

The Lemuria golf course on Praslin is Seychelles' only 18-hole course; however, the 9-hole Seychelles Golf Club – formerly known as Le Reef Golf Club – is located on Mahe's largest island.

It's an interesting but short course that winds through a mangrove swamp.
