Golf & Safari Tours

Going on a safari adventure in Kenya is a journey into the heart of Africa’s most iconic landscapes and wildlife habitats, but it’s also a destination that offers exceptional golfing opportunities amidst breathtaking scenery.

From the vast savannahs of the Maasai Mara to the stunning coastline along the Indian Ocean, Kenya’s fusion of golf and safari experiences creates a holiday like no other. In Nairobi, Kenya’s vibrant capital, golf enthusiasts can tee off at a number of world-class courses such as the Karen Country Club and Muthaiga Golf Club. Nestled amidst lush greenery, these courses offer challenging layouts and great views of the city skyline, providing the perfect combination of urban sophistication and natural beauty.

Outside of Nairobi en route to Lake Nakuru National Park, famous for its flamingos and rhinos you can stop and play at the Great Rift Valley Lodge & Golf Resort. Perched on the escarpment and overlooking Lake Naivasha is this superb Sir Henry Cotton designed course. Heading to the Kenya Coast, golfers can enjoy leisurely rounds at coastal resorts like Vipingo Ridge and Nyali Golf & Country Club in Mombasa or the Leisure Lodge Golf Club in Diani Beach.

Of course, no safari in Kenya would be complete without enjoying the country’s rich wildlife heritage. Witness the Great Migration in the Maasai Mara, where millions of wildebeest and zebras thunder across the plains in search of fresh grazing grounds. Explore the acacia-dotted landscapes of Amboseli National Park, home to elephants, lions and more against the backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro. And throughout your journey, take the time to connect with the local communities, including the Maasai people, who will enrich your experience with their traditional wisdom and hospitality.

A safari adventure in Kenya offers not only the chance to witness Africa’s incredible wildlife but also the opportunity to play golf amidst some stunning landscapes. We’ve played the courses, enjoyed the Tusker beer and loved all this iconic safari destination has to offer and look forward to helping you create your own Kenyan golf adventure.

When To Travel to Kenya

The weather is mostly ideal for golf all year round, with the peak tourist season being from late December to early February. Kenya has a
long history with golf – the Royal Nairobi Golf Club was founded more than a century ago. The best time to travel to Kenya is during the dry
seasons – January and February, and late June to October, when the weather is cooler and wildlife easier to spot. The “Big Five” can be seen in national parks like Amboseli, Lake Nakuru, Samburu, Maasai Mara, Tsavo, Meru, Laikipia, the Aberdares, and Mount Kenya. The Great
Migration of zebras and wildebeests occur from July and ends late September.

Kenya
January
This peak season is ideal for golf, diving and snorkelling, and is a popular period for safaris due to its clear, hot days and pleasant evenings. January offers good game and birdlife viewing in most Kenyan parks, with numerous bird migrants from within Africa and the Palearctic.

Kenya
February
Visit the Samburu National Reserve for excellent wildlife spotting opportunities. February is a wonderful month for beach vacations on the Kenyan coast, despite the possibility of really hot days. It is one of the finest months to climb Mount Kenya - the second highest peak in Africa, after Mount Kilimanjaro in neighboring Tanzania.

March
March is the hottest month along the coast, and it's a good time for beach vacations, provided you can handle the heat. Diving is great with good sea visibility and an abundance of marine life. In most Kenya safari areas it is the beginning of the long rainy season, making game viewing a challenge.

April
It is the start of the low season, with less visitors and better pricing. It is best to avoid golf and wildlife safari vacations from April through June because of the intense rains. Despite the rain there are many attractions, including art, history, culture and gourmet delights, in addition to spectacular waterbird sightings at the Great Rift Valley lakes.

May
The long rains last into May in several safari destinations in Kenya. With an average monthly rainfall of over 300 mm (12 inches), it is by far the wettest month along the coast. It's not the best time for golf, beach vacations, game viewing trips, or underwater activities. With a variety of museums, eateries, pubs and nightclubs, Nairobi is the place to go for indoor activities. There are less crowds, and special offers and low-season discounts on travel, lodging, food and drink.

June
End of June is the start of the busy high season, the climate becomes more comfortable, and travelling with children is recommended. Observe the breathtaking pink flamingos in large flocks at Lake Nakuru, and visit the spectacular coral reefs around Mombasa or Malindi. June offers excellent game viewing in the majority of the safari parks.

July
The peak tourist season, with clear skies and no rain. The weather is ideal for a variety of activities, including golf and wildlife safaris, exploring the vibrant cities, and beach activities. Witness the start of the Wildebeest Migration in the Maasai Mara, offering a breathtaking chance to perhaps see river crossings.

August
The wildebeest herds flee the dry plains of the Serengeti in Tanzania during late July and early August in search of food and water, and migrate to the vast plains of the Maasai Mara. Visit the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust to see orphaned elephants being rehabilitated.

September
Comparatively cold and dry, it's a wonderful month for beach vacations, game viewing - especially the wildebeest migration, which is at this time well established in the Masaai Mara - and sometimes humpback whale watching off the coast. Go snorkeling or diving in the crystal-clear waters of Watamu Marine National Park, and climb Mount Kenya.

October
The off-peak tourist season in Kenya is experienced between October to December, and April to June. As the well-known animal migration across the savanna approaches its peak, the weather changes from dry to wet. Visit Nairobi in October for the annual Safari Sevens, which is considered to be the best rugby competition in Africa. Explore the Rift Valley lakes, such as Naivasha and Nakuru, for birdwatching and wildlife viewing.

November
It is the ideal month for travellers on a tight budget to visit Kenya. Every November, the port city of Mombasa hosts the multicultural Mombasa Carnival, which is known as Kenya's most vivid street celebration. Attend the Lamu Cultural Festival on the peaceful tropical island Lamu, to experience traditional music, dance, and crafts.

December
Celebrate the holiday season with traditional Kenyan festivities and events. Go to the annual Rusinga Cultural Festival on Rusinga Island on the Kenyan side of Lake Victoria, and partake in the largest fireworks display in Nairobi on New Year's Eve! Humidity, hot weather and rain makes December not the preferred time for beach holidays on the Kenyan coast. As it is still low season, it can be a budget-friendly holiday destination.
