Swinging Through Africa: The Bradleys Unforgettable Golf Safari

Travel Tales

When you think of a bucket-list golf trip, traditional destinations like America and Scotland come to mind. But for the Bradleys, the allure was in something wilder, bolder and far more unpredictable. So they set out on a safari-inspired golf adventure with Africa Golf Safari in September of this year. From warthog hazards to tee times in the wildest settings, their journey was everything they dreamed of, and then some!

Here is their diary…

Cape Town – Starting in Style

Our African golf safari started with three unforgettable nights in Cape Town with the first round at Pearl Valley. Who are we to argue if it’s got Ernie Els’ stamp of approval? The weather was perfect, the greens flawless, and the mountain backdrop stunning enough to distract us more than a few times. World-class golf in a stunning setting was a great start to our African golf adventure!

Victoria Falls – A Round Unlike Any Other

At Victoria Falls, we teed off at Elephant Hills Golf Course for an unforgettable golf experience made by a combination of fun caddies and sharing the course with monkeys, baboons, impala, warthogs, crocodiles etc.  Bunkers seemed like quite a tame hazard after that and the highlight of our golf in Africa was when the caddy said, “Just aim for the warthogs and you’ll be good!”

Luxury on Rails – Rovos Rail to Victoria Falls

Next, we hopped on the Rovos Rail, travelling from Victoria Falls to Pretoria in an old-world style only possible on this iconic train. For three days, our deluxe suite became our sanctuary on wheels with African vistas sweeping past the open windows.

Nairobi – Classic Comforts at Hemingways

From Pretoria, we flew to Nairobi (Kenya) where we settled into Hemingways, which quickly became our favourite hotel of the trip. With views of the Ngong Hills and unmatched service, it was the perfect blend of luxury and charm. Our Nairobi driver, Laban, was a pro at navigating the city’s traffic. Windsor was our favourite course with its lovely forest setting in the city.

Maasai Mara – A true African Safari

At Elephant Pepper Camp in the Maasai Mara, golf took a backseat as we embraced the thrill of safari life. Surrounded by the sounds of Africa’s wildlife each night, sleeping under canvas was surreal. The camp’s meals were the highlight of our dining experiences, we couldn’t understand how we got the highest standard of food in the middle of the bush!

Lake Victoria & Uganda – Greens and Gorillas

Returning briefly to Nairobi, we recharged before flying to Uganda’s Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa. This was relaxation at its finest, and the course delivered with breathtaking lake views. But our main event lay in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest where rustic charm took on new meaning at Trackers Safari Lodge. The gorilla trekking experience, led by our guide, Sam, was truly unforgettable.

Final Farewell at Lake Victoria Serena

Our journey came to a perfect close with one last night at Lake Victoria Serena, where we reminisced about our favourite moments, of which there were plenty. Would we do it again? In a heartbeat. For golfers craving a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, Africa Golf Safari goes beyond anything you can imagine.
