Pinnacle Point Golf Club
Pinnacle Point Golf Club in Mossel Bay is a true coastal marvel. It is widely regarded as one of the best-positioned courses in the world. Situated on dramatic cliffs overlooking the Indian Ocean, this course is as visually impressive as it is challenging. Peter Matkovich and Darren Clarke were the designers. The 8th hole is unforgettable and a case of go big or go home. It requires a shot over the ocean or playing it safe to the left of the fairway. What a talking point this will be afterwards in the clubhouse!
Fancourt Golf Estate
Located in George, Fancourt Golf Estate is a premier golfing destination with three Gary Player-designed courses – The Links, Montagu and Outeniqua. The challenging layout of The Links mimics traditional Scottish links courses. Player himself has said, “It has been designed to make golfers feel as though they were at Ballybunion, Dornoch, or St Andrews with rolling fairways, pot bunkers, big greens, high rough, and a seascape appearance.”
Pezula Golf Estate
Pezula Golf Estate offers a rewarding game on its scenic fairways for those who choose this course in Knysna. Designed by Ron Fream and David Dale, the course features undulating fairways, strategically placed bunkers and challenging greens. The diversity of landscapes, from coastal cliffs to indigenous vegetation, ensures a unique challenge on every hole. The course has a well-appointed clubhouse. This makes it a favourite for those who value technical play and excellent amenities.
Arabella Golf Estate
Arabella Golf Club is often included in Garden Route itineraries for its world-class reputation despite being situated just outside the Garden Route in Kleinmond. Peter Matkovich designed the course and it consistently ranks among South Africa’s top courses. The 8th, 9th, 17th and 18th holes offer spectacular views of the Bot River lagoon. Its immaculate greens and well-placed bunkers test golfers’ accuracy. Arabella also emphasises sustainability and is situated within proximity of the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve.
St Francis Links
Further along the coast, St Francis Links the coastal town of St Francis Bay in the Eastern Cape is a Jack Nicklaus signature course. It is well-liked for its strategic design and stunning views of the surrounding bay and ocean. It features wide fairways and strategic bunkering. With at least four tee locations per hole, the course is designed to test players of all levels. The emphasis is definitely on shot-making.
